IPC Safety Check - Hospital

Hospital infection prevention is judged on more than whether the right policies exist. It is judged on device-associated infection rates, on mandatory outcome reporting, on whether antimicrobial stewardship works across every ward rather than the few that champion it, and on whether the IPC function is a resourced team or one very committed individual.

The Hospital IPC Safety Check reviews all of that. It is a self-assessment across the full breadth of hospital-level IPC, scored by you, returning a clear picture of compliance and risk with an action plan in priority order.

What it covers

Fourteen modules spanning IPC governance and quality, workforce competency, HAI surveillance and mandatory reporting, precautions and isolation and outbreak management, hand hygiene, aseptic technique and invasive devices, environment and cleaning and ventilation, workforce health, reprocessing of reusable medical devices, endoscopy, antimicrobial stewardship, critical care considerations, surgery and anaesthesia, and your licensing or certification obligations.

Optional modules adapt to what your hospital actually provides, so ICU, on-site reprocessing, endoscopy and surgery can each be switched on or off.

Australia (120 requirements, 14 modules) is built on NSQHS Standard 3, actions 3.01 to 3.19, the Hospital-Acquired Complications framework, and national mandatory surveillance including the National SAB Data Collection and AURA/NAUSP/Hospital NAPS antimicrobial surveillance now managed by the Australian Centre for Disease Control. It also draws on AS 5369:2023, ACORN 2026, ANZCA PG28 (2025), the National Hand Hygiene Initiative and state-based facility licensing, with a state or territory selector built in. Covers public and private, acute and sub-acute.

New Zealand (114 requirements, 14 modules) is built on Ngā Paerewa NZS 8134:2021 Section 5, which applies to overnight hospital inpatient services regardless of ownership. It cross-references the Health Quality and Safety Commission National Adverse Events Policy, the Surgical Site Infection Improvement Programme, ANZICS CORE device-associated infection benchmarking, AS/NZS 5369:2023, PNC NZNO, ANZCA PG28 (2025), Hand Hygiene New Zealand and the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001 certification framework.
